Ack, talk about poor aftermarket support, I can't even get stock rear springs made by an aftermarket company. Worse yet, the dealers around here say they have to order it from japan, 6-8 weeks wait time!! :(

Stock Springs: Dealer Item only??!!?
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Aug 2004" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
Just a question - why on earth would you want stock springs anyway? Even for rally, you would want stiffer than stock. If I were you, I would look for a set of 88 300zx SS rear springs. They would be about stock height, but a bit stiffer.
It's more about my lack of knowledge about these cars. I didn't want to go for lowering springs, and I wanted to retain as much height as possible.
Where can I find those springs? Are they stock from a Z31? One other thing is parts availability. How easily can I obtain parts if the ones I got breaks?
They are stock from the '88 SS edition 300ZX Turbo. You can actually get them through your Nissan dealer. They are rated at 224 lb/in. I believe stock is somewhere around 150ish lb/in. Just to simplify things, you can ask the dealer for part number 55020-26P00 Or, you might be able to find some used ones a little cheaper in the classifieds on z31.com, although, they're a very rare item to find for sale.
Hrm, how would that affect handling? Since I'm still on stock tired front springs.
LOL Good question. You could always go the coilover method on the front and get whatever spring rate you want. Also, Nissan Motorsports offers the Euro Spec springs for the S12. The fronts are uprated to 166 lb/in, and it says it still maintains full suspension travel. The Euro Spec rear springs for the S12 are rated at 178 lb/in, but I think the higher rated rear spring from the Z31 would help with handling.
By the way, part numbers for the Euro Springs in the Motorsports catalog are:
54010-22F02 for the Right Front
54010-22F03 for the Left Front
55020-22F02 for the Rear
So the rear part number is for a pair? The euro springs seem much more applicable for rally. The 300zx springs would be too stiff, I'd be oversteering all over the place :-) Thanks for the insight though, I might go for euro springs. Hopefully I can order it from around here :(
Oversteer and rally go hand in hand. Yes, the rear part number is for the pair, and any Nissan dealer can get this stuff, although I just noticed you are in Canada, so the part numbers may or may not be valid for you.
I e-mailed courtesy nissan from texas, I can probably go over to Washington State to order some there. I'll check the nissan dealers here to see if they can get it.
I e-mailed courtesy nissan, they couldn't price those springs out for me. They're priced when they arrive at the facility.
Shiz... I'll ask the local dealers here.

Oversteer is not necessarily a bad thing, especially on a rally course...
I would like my car to be as perfectly neutral as possible. I don't want it to naturally oversteer, any oversteer the car would do, I would like to induce it myself. A car that naturally oversteers can be really hard to control ;)
Anybody have any ideas how much the Euro spec springs costs? Anybody here that has 'em?
Nismoparts.com has those Euro spec rear springs for $69.85 Just type this part number in the part number search box M-55020-22F02
I'm not too sure but I think Nissan used the stiffer "euro" springs for the 87 and 88 turbos. You have to check with the old posting or call Nissan to confirm that. Since you have a 88 then you have the stiffer but old and tired springs. another option is to have then "custom" made. Give Dendoff springs a call, check the white pages and the net, they are in Surrey just off the Pattullo bridge. I used to deal with them when I was working for my old company. The reason why I said "custom" is because they don't stock springs and ever spring they make is made to order; so the advantage is that you can add an inch or two in ride height for rally.

I had these on an 87 SE V6 model of mine and they handled very well.....
