think you can bore out that CA20E, think again. Here is a little picture of what the ca20e guys have under the hood. (Courtesy of Yellow's Project Dumbass CA20ET).

As far as getting a T3 manifold. Hold off for JUST a few. Im working on getting a HANDFUL of good stuff made for us. These will include with prices

1) Log style Stainless manifolds with t2/t25/t3 flange for $275 shipped (or less if we buy lots from him)
2) Intercoolers (large and CHEAP)
3) T25 turbos NEW from $250
4) Everything from Garrett to Turbonetics to Master Power and More. Master Power T3 turbo for $375 shipped.

Currently I am sending my manifold to him to get a log style made to show for you guys. If the demand is there, this could be a HUGE breakthrough for cheaper items for upgrades. I will be starting a NEW thread later when I get some more pricing and item availablity from him. I will keep you all imformed though, this is HUGE.

I am confused, are you saying that there is an easier way to turbo charge my CA20E than you did. where would the turbo go and what is a log style manifold. ( i know what the manifold is)???

Wow Alex those parts sound great. I'm rebuilding a spare CA18ET engine I have and was wanting a good exhaust manifold so if you could get those made i'd definetly get one.

no kidding. this guy is going to be great. very friendly, very competitive, very business like in how we talk. Good guy to be working with. Very interested in getting my manifold in the next few and making a log style. Little hint. The CA20ET is going T3! gonna spool some of those BIG turbos. With some fuel upgrades of course :P :lick:

These are the exact products we will be getting for the S12. I can get them with T25 or T3 flanges. Im going to try for a t25/t3 combo flange. For the best of both. Those turbos are also for sale. I think he said like $250 for them NEW. and Master Series T3 Turbos for like $375 shipped NEW! He has intercoolers too.

Log manifold + T25 turbo + all accessories.

So for the most part. in that picture, that is all i would need to turbo charge my car? How would i go about installing that??? and would i still need to change the computer and injectors???
thanks

No, you need a lot more than that to turbocharge a car. Get "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell, and read it a couple times. Great read, and you'll really understand how the system works after that.

So Alex, you heard any more on the manifold yet? I'm very interested in how this will go...

YellowPreludeRdate not saved · #7

yes yes, i am mailing my manifold to him very soon. gonna get me my t3 setup very soon. im just waiting on prices from him on all his other products so I can give them to you.

Joel07date not saved · #8

Awesome! Sounds good! Glad to see you're not selling the car after all...

YellowPreludeRdate not saved · #9

no kidding. i put it up for sale just to show my rents that I put it up. Thaat way they would stop nagging me.

Joel07date not saved · #10

Nice, man nice. I guess they don't know about the upcoming T3 then?

YellowPreludeRdate not saved · #11

they know i still have the car and its non turbo, but know, they dont know whats comming in the mail later !

Here is a direct email copy of the parts prices. Check them out and see if you guys want him to make parts for our cars.

Ok here are a few prices. Assuming the manifolds are not too difficult they will run
$275-300. Maybe better if I had some quantities.

Turbos: (generic)
T3 - $375 0.42/0.48 A/R (my favorite)
T3/T4 - $375 0.50/0.63 A/R

Master Power turbos: (many different options to choose from)
T3/T4 - $475ea
T61, T62 etc.. $525ea
5% discount with 8 turbos
10% discount with 13 turbos
all come with 360 degree bearing

Wastegate:
Generic 38mm - $155 (Tial Replica)

Blow Off valve:
50mm Tial replica - $110 (on sale right now)

Intercoolers: (Spearco)
23x6x3 - $400
many more available including the entire Griffin Lineup. If you know a good size let
me know and I will quote it.

4ply Silicone Couplers:(better pricing with quantity)
2" w/ clamps - $9.00ea
2" w/ T-bolt clamps - $14.00ea
2.5" w/ clamps - $10.00ea

So that's for a log manifold, right? What about the other guy who was thinking about making an equal length manifold? I might actually rather have a log manifold, doesn't look as pretty, but there's probably a lot less chance of it cracking...

Sounds awesome! And $375 for the T3 ain't bad either!!!

YellowPreludeRdate not saved · #14

like I said. Post replies and comments and we will go from there.

Joel07date not saved · #15

Well I think I'd rather have the log manifold, but I kinda committed to the other guy talking about making tubular equal lengths, so we'll see what happens...

He's talkin about $800, which is still a pretty good deal, but I think I could deal with this one a lot better... :slap:

I'd probably be buying one of the T3's too...

I take it those are in US $$$'s...

Whats the internals on a CA20E like? Im swapping an SR in my CA powered S12 right now but I wouldnt mind building a turbo CA20 just to see what it does.......Someone give me some strengths and weaknesses.....

=Jeff

bartc_jdate not saved · #18

ahh lets just say they may toothpics look huge... not worth the money if you areplanning a sr swap you'll spend less on the sr then building the ca20 to hld the same power levels the sr can stock

Joel07date not saved · #19

I don't know about all that...

My build up is including Mitsubishi Eagle rods ($400) and Wiseco Pistons ($500), and I'm planning on using the stock crank. I'm pretty confident it'll hold up to 300-350 hp pretty easily...

But the stock rods are really weak. They're small, thin and cast. So we'll see how my build up works out, but I'm hoping I can change the bad rep that the CA20 has...

And I'm pretty sure that I'll have less in my entire motor than it would cost to buy an SR clip...

YellowPreludeRdate not saved · #20

Here are the CA20E rods vs. the 1000HP Pauter CA20ET rods. You decide if you want to keep the stock rods in there. I wouldnt even supercharge a CA20E with the stockers.

bartc_jdate not saved · #21

man those are some beefy rods... very nice

Joel07date not saved · #22

Well yeah I wouldn't do much with the stock rods, but just because we have toothpick rods doesn't mean the whole motor is junk... ;)

CA20 rods are probably some of the skinniest I've ever seen, except maybe the Wisconson aluminum-headed diesel motors. Their rods are like 11" long, and at least as skinny as the CA20 rods... :yikes:

PowEr_oVeRdate not saved · #23

Im interested in learning more about this ca20e turbo setup. However i wanted to know if there is anyway to me a top mount turbo manifold??

Joel07date not saved · #24

Nobody makes turbo manifolds for the CA's yet, so it'll have to be custom for that. Only thing I can say about the turbo CA20 is please build up the bottom end first... :) I might be starting back on some work on my bottom end before long, and like I said before, if there's some interest, I can probably make a few kits with all the modded parts from different stuff...
