I was on my way home from a drift clinic today and I noticed i was low on gas so I refill and hit the trip odometer reset. It felt harder than normal but it reset. As I was leaving the station I noticed the trip odometer wasn't counting up. then I noticed the regular odometer wasn't conting up either. Then I noticed that my speedo was at zero all the time. I dont know when it failed or stoped working but do any of you know whats wrong?

My tachometer works fine along with my fuel guage and my voltmeter, and my temp gauge. But my speedo, odometer, and trip odo dont work.

I have an 88 VG30E with an 86 - 300zx ecu and maf.

Could be that your speedo cable came off of the back of the instrument cluster. It's easy to check. Just take out the screws that hold the instrument hood on and the instrument cluster. More than likely though, you will need to buy a new speedo cable. I had the exact same thing happening with my car. Bought a new speedo cable and everything is back to normal.

Just noticed it's a V6 and I'm not sure if the gearing, tire sizes, and redline are the same ... But this is what it is for the '87 CA20E according to my calculations :)

LOL I drove that way for 4 years. I have to say, now that I have my speedo working again, it's kinda nice. Henge, I got my speedo cable from my local Nissan dealership. Don't remember how much, but I doubt it's an expensive item.

My Nissan dealer quoted me $300 to fix mine ... So that's why I have the calculations ;)

Why would you have Nissan replace it for you? Just do it yourself!

*pfffft* calculations ...

Just don't drive faster then the car in front of you.

If there's no car in front of you, set your own.

When you get pulled over ...

"Officer, it just stopped working, I need to get home."

Granted it only works on one cop once ... but hey

Change your own speedo cable, it's not hard.

Waaaaaay easier than doing calculations if your math skills are anything like mine

lol, that what i've been doin and that what i plan on doin if i get pulled over.
