ok i know we cant use a hotwire maf but are there any flapper style that will work that have a bigger opening, im going to pick a part tommorow to pick up a rb30 throttle body and just wondering if there was any other nissans i should have a look at r30 skylines? etc

Yes there are other flapper style MAF's, but all the flappers styles are restrictive. It would probably not be worth while just to change to another flapper...sorry :(

Try one from a 1986-91 Mazda RX-7.

the thing you need is to find a different maf that has the same signal varaince as the stock unit. or get a s-afc and use any maf you want

ok i migh be out of the loop but wat teh hell is a s-afc

its a air/fuel controller that allows you to use bigger injectors and different mafs and the afc basically fools the ecu thinking nothing has changed

You'll find that most other nissans around the same erra use the same sensor. Ive modded the intake to change the 2m of intake piping to about 2ft and i find that the stock AFM works fine.

but a) the stock one is restrictive (big vane in the pathway)
b) it hates positive pressure (ie turbo applications)

I still want someone to try to upgrade to a SOHC KA hotwire and ECU ... same injectors etc etc etc.

Yes that idea with the soch KA ecu and maf just might work. A friend of mine had a 240sx with the KA24E once and I remember helping him work on it and I said damn this engine and everything seems just like the CA20E that was in my old 200. Very very similiar.

the only prob with using the ka injectors is that they are 16ohms if i remember right and ours are 3ohms

But you would be using the KA ECU as well, so it should read the signals fine...

Yeah ... and I don't think the SOHC ones are any different than ours.

My buddy's S13 was running Z31 injectors, which I'm pretty sure are low impedence too.

The important thing is we know the ca20e needs at least 270cc worth of injectors, and the KA comes with that.

So with the KA MAF and ECU, we know the ca20e won't be drowning in fuel

ive come to spoil another party :P
its pretty pointless trying to get performance out of a stock CA20
if you want to turbo it piss the maf off and buy a cheap programable ecu that uses a map sensor
screwing with different mafs from diff cars is fraught with danger
on turbo engines get it wrong and the fuel mixtures go horribly lean and destroy some pistons
get it rich and it will jsut run like a pig and foul plugs constantly

on non turbo ca20's trying to extract more power from them without a full blown rebuild and decent injection setup is just silly
bigger throttle bodies and such arent going to improve power much
save for a turbo swap
dont waste your pennies on shit thats not going to work

cheap programable ecu

Boy, I'd like to find one of those.

But seriously, there's been a lotta people running the stock ecu with the KA throttle body, and a Z31 MAF, combined with bigger injectors and an SAFC, and they've been running pretty good. I know it's not perfect, but it's a whole lot cheaper than a $1500 standalone setup...

TuffS12date not saved · #15

in australia we can get pretty damn good value for money ecu's for about $800 new, basic enough to run a CA20 better than the stock ecu can

you could get a used ecu for about 400 if you looked hard enough
guys are always selling wolf3d's cheap

if i end up striping my mazda ill be selling a Haltech E6M real cheap

in the end you get a better deal, a better running engine, a less complicated system

and the car may run fine but until you get it on the dyno and check its air fuel ratios under load you reallu dont know what its doin

mine runs beutifully but is dipping into the 8:1 af zone which is far too rich

Um, the KA 60mm has been put on sevral cars (mine included at one point) and improvement has been noticed (which logic would also dictate) but you only notice a real difference if you bore the intake mani with a dremel or the like. Now by doing that, exhaust, and a mild port and polish, a big difference can be achieved...

all im saying is trail and error is a bad way to do things

and a noticable gain would be as little as 3-4kw

im not saying that you shouldnt do it

what i am saying is rather than spending money on little mods that give little gains why not save and do one decent mod that gives one huge gain

after all your in this game to make the car accelerate harder arent you?
