My 84 200sx coupe has 3 plugs for the ECU, but my ECU only accepts 2 plugs. I know the later model ECU's have a place for all 3. It just seems odd. Does anybody have a wiring diagram, or possibly an answer to this enigma?

could be that nissan used the same basic board/casing for the ca20e and ca18et motors so it just used the appropiate plugs for each variance, but this is only a guess

Thats what I thought, but the later model CA20E uses all 3 as well. Oh well just struck me as odd.

wouldn't that mean that you could swap in a ca18et and use the same wiring harness? i thought this wouldn't work?

yes you can but there are a few wires that are different so if you had a wiring diagram from both you could do so

but i thought that they both used two different maf sensors and a totally different ign coil setup?.. wouldn't this call for a totally different wiring harness? :dontknow:

Sort of...If you look at the connectors that attach the wiring harness to the MAF you will notice that only some of the wires are being used. The other get used on the CA18 setup. Also the O2 has three wires on the CA18, and there is only one on the CA20.

Now as far as the extra plug, I can't tell you because I haven't figured it out my self... Now that I am actually in the possession of both a MKI, and a MKII and have seen both setups, I can safely say that I am more confused that before...:|

I am pretty sure that there are not the same amount of wires because the MKII's have an electronic timing advance, where as the MKI's have a vacuum advance. Also MKII have EPROM and the MKI's don't so that too could make the difference...8)

Yeah I am still trying to get my car to run all the time. I thought it would be worth a shot to see if this had anything to do with it. I figured it wouldn't, but I am desperate to figure out this problem. :(

Have you checked the ECU for codes??

I can't get it to give me any codes. All it does is flash andn flash and I let it run through the sequence 3 times then switch to diagnostic and it shows nothing.
