i would like to know where the cam notch is suppose to be in corelation to the timing marks on the pully and not the gear. there r like 5 or 6 marks on the pully thats for the timing of the distributer. i cant get the pully off so im trying to go by these marks on the pully. also how do i set the timing on the distributer. i know its all off. i have no clue to what im doing and working with very limited resources. any help would be appreciated.

Those six notches (buenos notches haha) should read left from right -5btdc, 0tdc 5tdc 10tdc 15tdc and 20 tdc. When the arrow attached to the block is pointing at 0tdc that means your no1 cylinder is at top dead center (its highest point) and your distibutor rotor should be pointed at the no1 cylinder plug wire (inside the distributor cap). If you want to set your timing you need to have a timing light which shouln't be hard to find
dude thank u so much. i have been having trouble wit this thing for 2 weeks now. im going to go set it right now. jus want to let all the senior members know that u guys do wonders for the newbies wit this car. i dont know what i would have done wit out u guys
what if ur 180 degrees out. jus rotate the crank one revolution back to tdc?
you need to be tdc on the compression stroke of the #1 cylinder
If your 180 degrees out the little arrow on your block won't point to the timig marks (y'know the 0tdc, 5tdc) on the pulley and your rotor will be pointing to the no3 spark plug wire (inside the distributor cap. A lot of people here have helped me a lot so I try to return the favor when I can. Oh yeah the timing for your car should 15 degrees (stock setting).

but this is only true if you never removed the timing belt, but if you did and moved the crank or cam at all then, you need to rotate the crank so all pistons are about half way down/up there travel(basically place the crank on 0tdc and then rotate it 90degrees(with the belt off)...then roates the cam gear so that the exhaust lobe on the #1 cylinder is straght up(basically this is the #1 cylinder being at tdc on the compression stroke) then when you have that rotate the crank to tdc and then your marks on the timing belty should line up with very minor rotation on the cam gear
what if u dont have makes on ur belt? its an aftermarket belt

it should have marks period or you wil never set the appropiate timing... if it doesnt its either used or a wrong one..
