Put my Project mU D1 Spec rear pads in today, havn't had a chance to try them (drift day this weekend though). I'll let you'se know how it goes. My handbrake did NOTHING at all before, didn't even slow me down. So almost anything is an improvment but i really want to lock on demand. We'll see...
The pads are S13/S14/S15 ones.

I'm pretty sure you'll already know this, but I had to find out the hard way.

I got a set of RG "drift" brake pads for an S13. The guy that bought them no longer has an S13. So I got em for cheap.

He failed to mention that unlike street pads, they are genuinely a set of race pads and they need heat to be effective.

Not a pleasant surprise downshifting in morning traffic with a coffee in your hand to discover you have no brakes *lol*

Then they came on like a mofo.

- 1 coffee
- 1 pair of jeans
13 x blaspheming

So yeah, make sure to ride them a bit first.

And get a spilly proof cup.

Another reason why I don't drink coffee ;)

Hehe yeah i do found they work better with a bit of heat but my old pads were so shite that even cold they seem to work just as well.
I got a few more things to fix on my car with limited time before the drift meet now, typical that i leave things till the last minute.
Gearbox leaks like a sieve, left lower control arm balljoint is a little loose and one of my rear rotors is warped and....

Alex Frostdate not saved · #5

You warped the rear rotors...wow that takes skill...lol

I don't get it, you mean they are easy to warp and this is sarcasm? I think mine was warped when i got it :(. I havn't done anything dumb like parking with the handbrake on straight after some heavy braking.

Heh, no ...

It's just the rear brakes are so crap to begin with it's a chore to get them to lock, let alone warp them.

Hey, just a thought Neb ... is your handbrake snugged up?

Hey, just a thought Neb ... is your handbrake snugged up?That is exactly what I meant...I wish I could lock my rears up

Yeah disc handbrakes don't lock easily at the best of times, that's why i actually spent some cash on these pads to see how they go.
By snugged up you mean i have the handbrake adjusted really tight? I don't i have it adjusted to normal range of movement, any tighter and it'd be even worse with graunching on the warped rotor, and i don't like to have handbrakes up to tight anyways.

you tested the new pads yet or what??

These should be sorta similar to my comp2 pads, i think :)

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #11

yeah i tried em out a bit last night, needs some heat to work but they lock at around 70km/h just fine when they are warmed first (two moderate stops is all it seems to need). I'll see how they go this weekend in the drift practice, if they can lock my 205x55 R16 Advans on the road then can lock my 195x70 R14 Kelly Chargers (ie crap) tyres on the track haha.

salps12date not saved · #12

so they made a noticable difference, very nice!

Im guessing you werent able to lock the wheels b4 at anything over 60kp/h?

Nebuchernezzerdate not saved · #13

Before i couldn't lock the wheels at all, ever. Gravel at 40km/h yeah, at any speed on tarmac....nope not at all, didn't even slow the car appreciably in fact. Good ol repco pads hehe.

Did you smack your face on the windshield?

I came close enough to see my breath on the glass.

Dunno if you've had a look, but check out the front of your brake booster, and look for signs of weeping. Mine had serious plunger issues, and it wouldn't brake very hard at all. It was enough to stop it, but if you whacked the brakes hard, it just dragged.

I replaced the plunger in the master, and added the pads.

First 70 km/h - 0 stop I did with everything warmed up (no seatbelt on; a) I'm an idiot, and b) I was just moving the car around to the back of the shop) everything in the hatch came forward, I stood up and had to push back against the wheel to keep from kissing the screen!

*lol*

These cars can stop!!!

Hehe nah my brakes are fine really, we have been doing touge (mountain pass) runs with some boys from a toyota club, and the brakes work fine then. Just lacked the rear end grab for handbrakies. Did some drifting at a practice day on the weekend and the pads seemed to work ok although having two separate hail storms during the day really kerbed the dry track fun :(. Used the handbrake in the wet a few times though to combat understeer and it worked a treat. Got to get out in the dry again and get enough speed up to try handbrake entries, i want to get some photos and vids up later this week of me and FLYPSI's efforts, although don't expect to be dazzled by either of us haha.

Hi!. Where do i find these brakepads?.. so the s13 rear brakepads fit the s12 turbo rear end?

So an adress to a company that sells these brakepads or something like that would be really nice.. Thanks in advance.

Yeah S13 and S12 disc rear end pads are the same.
I dunno about in Sweden i'm afraid, the brand is Project mU so i guess you'll just have to see if anyone in sweden imports that brand from japan. Also they are not the only company that sells pads that are good for handbrakies, i have seen a few other brands mentioned. http://www.project-mu.co.jp is the company webpage at least.
