Well I've been tearing into the ca18det and heres some comparison notes between the two motors.
Ca18det aftermarket turbo exhaust manifold could be rather easily fitted to a ca18et
Must cut one inch out of tranny tunnel to fit det tarnny in
You should use the et mounts for the det swap, seems to make more sense
Cranks is 8 bolt on flywheel side and harmonic balancer and timming gear are different than et motor, crank on det is much beefier.
Ca18det block is wayyyyy different in regard to coolant and oil taps into the block. Piston oil squirters. Oil pan is different. Oil pump is different but will bolt up, rear main engine seal and housing is the same, ca18det intake manifold is way different.
I dont know what to say, I figured the motors would br rather comparible, they are not. any body want me to check something gimme a shout.
Peace
Ca18det to ca18et differences I've found

Alrighty, thanks for the tips.
You know, there should be a one post sticky on how to install a CA18DET. Like there should be everything you need in that one post:
-Materials
-What you need, what you don't need
-Pictures
-Wrongs and Rights
-etc.
where did u get urs by the way?
I bought It local. a whole rhd s13 ca18det car. It had an engine fire. So I just finally got a wirring harness. I'm gonna keep lookin at stuff to day and for sure 'll post a big how too installing the det. I payed 2700$ for the car
Bride ergo seats, jic coilovers, mines ecu, 440cc injectors, 3inch hks exhaust freshly rebuilt t25, sold the turbo, I dont want to get into the rest of it, but it was a good deal.
Peace
Hmmm... I can't really picture how a CA18DET exh. manifold would work on an ET. The DET's got evenly spaced round ports, the ET's got paired square ports...
the ca18det also has a crank brace frame that the ET doesnt have... but can be fitted to it :)
crank brace frame
Is that a stud girdle? Sorry, don't speak British... j/k
That would be a pretty awesome upgrade for some of our higher hp CA's... Wonder how hard they are to get ahold of, or if you can buy them somewhere new...
no idea... but you aint getting mine :p
try hunting down blown ca18det blocks
We have a ca18det girdel in our ca18et

You will need the bolts and modifie the oilpickup to fitt int into the ca18et.
And cut som in the oilpan to ;-)
Nice! I like it, now where in the world do I find a CA18DET to use for parts...
why can't you use the det mounts? other than the fact the et's are a bitch to get off......I'm trying to remove them right now with little sucess.
can ya please explain the flywheel differences. I want to use a det that was auto and put my et flywheel/clutch/trans on it will this work or do i need to get a det flyweel and clutch then join that to the et trans ?

you can use the det mount....
I am actually using a mix of the 2
intake side is det mount
exhaust is et mount!
just tighten the det mount like crazy as there is a little play

the flywheel of a ca18det is a 8 bolt pattern and the et is a 6 bolt pattern
you will not be able to use your et flywheel into a det engine!
but i can belive you can fit the ca18de from pulsars in there as they have i think the same bolt pattern!
