so I got bleed my brakes lastnight and I went around the car a few times and it got better. but you could pump up the brakes let them go for a few seconds and the pedel would go all the way to the floor again. so I assume that this is the master cylinder.
anyway if it is should I get a reman or upgrade? I'm running ss lines and z32 front brake on a 87 xe.

Trouble spot on these cars.
I'm not guaranteeing it's what's wrong with yours, but it sounds just like mine did.
How is stopping from 100-0 mph panic? Hehhee.
The master cylinder only has one moving part, so as long as the casting is ok, just get the rebuild kit. OR go to the wreckyard and find an 89+ S13 240SX.
I did this route, so I don't know for a fact ... but. The S13 master cylinder is identical to ours. The plunger inside that does all the braking (and what I'm blaming for your brake performance) is different. On the 200sx one, the plunger has a weeny spring, and very thin rubber seals. The 240 unit has much beefier seals and a thicker spring.
Since every pre 89 Nissan in the wreckers had the same bad brakes, I'm assuming this was a known problem, so the S13 style might have been a fix for this. I don't know what the rebuild kit gets you, the S12 style or S13.
On the front of your master cylinder, there's an allen head plug. If you undo it, the plunger should stay sealed and not move. If it oozes out or shoots out towards you, it's bad. Also look for signs of rust or paint stripping on the brake booster or firewall, a sure sign it's leaking.
My brakes would feel ok ... they would stop the car under normal driving (5 spd). It was either when waiting at a light - the pedal would just drop to the floor after a second - or when you nailed them. One of the first times I had my S12 working, I wound it out down my buddy's street, whacked the brakes and nothing ... just air moving. I could bleed them, eventually get some pedal pressure, but it would go away eventually.
Also same time I figured out my handbrake was seized, and now I have a broken stud on the handle.
It's a super easy job to do, shouldn't take you more than a few minutes.
is a z32 master cylinder the same, anyone done it?

no its way bigger.. it should fit since the s13 guys use this as a upgrade... expect very very touchy brakes if you install the z32 brakes, but not to bad for you since you already have the z32 front brakes
i assume this:
production date 02/1989 to 06/1990 300ZX Non-Turbo with NO ABS brakes
would bolt in with no modification?
What P valve are the S13 guys using?
our MS is 15/16.
tip when bleading the back brakes un do the calipers an hold them up as high as you can. remember to put a block of wood in to the caliper to stop the piston poping out
i am buyin a new 85 200sx, and he said the master brake cylinder is out, how bad is that and how much would it cost to repair. since i have no clue what to do(please don't burn me to bad)
not much i think it was 35 + core, and remember to bench bleed
is that for me love to drift?$35???
I got a reman for $25, it took about 1/2 an hour to bench bleed and replace. Biggest issue was to soak the fittings on the old one in PB Blaster a day ahead of time. Funny thing, the rebuild kit was $45
Ron
could it be.....is it really...it IS!!!!
ALL HAIL KING RON!!! lol wassup...where you been man?
I need to get a new brake master cylinder or rebuild mine...so I'll ask for pricing about a rebuilt kit and a replacement 2morrow.
if you're doing a m/c upgrade on a car with drum brakes, you're gonna have a little troube coz those m/c have a residual check valve in them to maintain a slight pressure in the rear lines for the slave cylinders.
