Hey guy,

My car is really pissin me off. here it goes....

Ok, when i steped on the brakes the other day to my surprise, i had none... so i check the brake fluid reservor and its empty. i look under my car and see no leaks? so i just decided to fill up my reservor with brake fluid and see what happens.

Like 5 mins later, the same thing.its all gone!:( I jacked up the car and i looked at the rims/ floor/wheel wells, and nothin! i see no fluid anywhere. i keep filling and it keeps swallowing but where the hell does my fluid go? i thought there would be like a busted hose but, i checked and theres no sign of leaking.

Plz help...?

Check below the master cylinder on the fire wall.......I bet this is where it's leaking.
Same thing with mine a few years ago......I would have to refill the resivor constantly, but never found any puddles on the garage floor. One day I was in the engine bay messing with the turbo, and whola......found that the frame rail was soaked with brake fluid, and the paint was all blistered and flaking off.

I checked my stru tower keith and it seems fine no brake fluid there. Also i forgot to mention, when i apply the brakes the car kinda wants to stall at idle. i removed the master cylinder and took a picture of it and the brake booster. there is fluid all over the brake boost nipple and taht area. watch...

well Tony.. that is your problem, you need a new master cylinder, there isnt supposed to be any kind of seal or gasket there because the fluid is NOT supposed to come out there.. seems to be a common problem for the master cylinder to go out tho.. it happened on my CA20E S12 too

or if money is an issue, you can just rebuild it.

There's only one moving part to the master, and the case very rarely goes bad.

But yeah, in the last pic that Henge posted ...

There's two little tabs that hold that round plate on. Pry them back, and the cap should pop off. Behind that cap is a plunger, basically a rod with a spring and two rubber washers. Once the rubber gets hard or old, air and fluid slips past them.

Looking at your master and booster, I have a good idea where all your fluid has been going.

I had the same problem with mine, and I just grabbed the plunger part out of an S13. The spring was beefier, and the rubbers looked bigger. Same master though.

A new or remanufactured master cylinder doesn't cost too much from Auto Zone or somewhere like that......don't remember what I paid for mine, but I wanna say it was well under $80.
Also...don't know if it's posible with the brake master cylinder, but on my clutch master cylinder when it was losing fluid, it was all going through the firewall to the inside, and running down and collecting behind the carpet.......like I said, don't know if this is possible with the brake master cyl. but might be worth looking up behind the pedals, to see if you need to clean it up......cuz brake fluid is nasty stuff

Ok, thnxs for all the help guys.

So far, ive replaced the master cylinder with a new one at autozone. the fluid stays where its suppose to and doesnt empty out anymore.

But, when i turned on the car shyt loads of white smoke came out of my exhaust. (got really scared lol) but, as i reved it and stuff it kept coming out. and when i applied the brakes it would stall kinda.

So then i ubnplugged the vaccum from the booster to the intake manifold and smelled the brake fluid in that intake manifold nipple. so i just covered it with my thumb while the car was on and it was still smoking, but alot less.

I guess im burning out all the brake fluid that went into my engine from the booster due to the leaky master cylinder. But, i just connected the hose again and im just gonna let my car sit there with the brakes on so it canm just burn out all that damn brake fluid. also its actually braking a bit (with still some fluid in booster) but not braking much. brakes only when pedal is slammed.

I havent bled the brakes ever since i installed the new master cylinder today. could that be the reason there not braking only at the end is when there breaking?

Yah, anytime you open up the brak system. You have to bleed it. IT gets the air and flushes part of the system out. Probably should bleed till it starts coming out clean at each bleed point, just be sure to not let the master go empty or you will be starting all over again.

When I got my S12, the brake pedal went to the floor. After loking at my options, which were rebuilding it with nifty 240SX internals vs. a new S12 master, I chose the latter. To be honest, a fresh, complete S12 master feels just right under the foot. Now I seem to have plenty of stopping power. I was just cheaper and easier to buy it that way.

i bled the brakes and the car is stopping again.

But my engine is runnning like shyt because of the brake fluid inside its trying to burn. when ever i step on the brakes white smoke comes out. plus if i rev my engine and clutch in to let the rev drop, it will drop slowly.

How much longer is this gonna take to burn out all thats left damnit. Plus my stupid boost leak due to my damn orange gasket from the turbo to that damn stock pipe is leaking nasty.

CANT WAIT FOR MY NEW INTERCOOLER!!!!

You should try some of that combustion chamber cleaner and spray it down the booster tube to clean it out. I'me pretty sure this won't harm the tube, somebody back me up?

Under_Controldate not saved · #12

Do you have the name and know where i can buy it? i really really want to clean it because now, when i rev my engine the rpms come down really slowly. Also the white smoke only comes out now when i rev it to like 5-6 grand and let off gas.

The revs never came down slowly before this damn fluid got in my motor.

I used "kleen-flo combustion chamber cleaner" and you can pick it up at lordco or napa and some other places, but keep it away from your maf sensor, it will kill it real fast. Oh yeah Gunk, Slick 50 and a bunch of other people make similar products that can be found all over the places (auto parts stores).

Sea Foam, you can get it at Napa. This stuff is awesome not only will it clean that out but it will clean out your fuel lines and you entire engine internals. Just remember to do an oil change afterwards cuz it does break down oil. Basically what you do is pour about 1/3 into your gas tank, pour another 1/3 into your valve cover and the rest just take the vacuum hose from the brake booster and stick it into the bottle and try to start the car. This will suck out the rest. Once you've emptied the botttle connect the booster hose back up and start the car. Let it Idle for 15-20 min. you can rev it alittle to clean it out quicker. Also do this with about a 1/4 tank of gas, and once your have to refill the gas get an oil change quick.

Another note is you might not want to do this at home. This cleaning produces MASSIVE amounts of white smoke. I did it to my mazda 626 with 185000mi and my house disapeared for 5 min. :) Go to a parking lot or something.

Its really good stuff, just read the directions on the bottle, definitly worth the $5 it costs cuz it get rid of all the carbon buildup in the engine.

I would suggest against Slick 50, there have been numerous studies that have said time, and time again that the stuff doesn't do anything, but cost you money...:|

I definately agree..this stuff (sea foam) is absolutely AWESOME! its cleans out everything, and you WILL notice a better idle, better vaccuum, better everything...note, i ran the sea foam in oil for about 500 miles..no difference (as far as engine noises due to thin oil), but i'd be Real cautious about going any longer with something of that consistency in your oil! good luck!
