is it posible tojust use a ca20 motor if my ca18 is dead?
1.8 to 2.0

yes but it wont hold as much power since the rods are quite weaker
Yeah, build up the CA20, then do it... :evillaug:
It would probably be alright for a while, but I wouldn't be too hard on it and expect it to live. Thrown rods are not a pretty sight...
True, but as long as you keep it around stock boost you should be ok, the CA20 rods aren't as bad as what everybody makes them out to be...8)
how much different are the two rods? could ca18det rods be used?
they are not much different. the 2.0 is longer so you can't use the 1.8 rods in a 2.0 block.
yes but the longer 20 rods in an 18... may have an effect on increased displacement.... :dontknow: :???:
yes but the longer 20 rods in an 18... may have an effect on increased displacement.... :dontknow: :???:no it will push the piston through the head. the 2.0 block is taller than the 1.8.
there was a ca20de in some sentras will any of these work, or can I just get a ca18det block and use it with the ca18et head?
I don't think those sentras had a ca20de,or any car for that matter. But maybe the sr20de though. We did get that motor here in the states, in the se type R Sentras and an INfinity or 2.
Regardless, the answer to your question is yes, in a pinch you can swap in a CA20E longblock and slap your turbo manifolds and other crap onto it. Read my tagline. I have one.
Now, it will put more stress on the CA20E headgasket because the CA20E has .5 more compression, so if the CA20E engine you swap in is old and tired, it might blow the headgasket rather quickly, as was the case with mine. Something to consider. I suppose, however, that a fresh rebuilt CA20E longblock using ARP headstuds will more than compensate for that. But the higher compression will make performance tuning still more difficult than with a CA18ET engine setup. It's your choice. For a mild to stock setup, it's going to be fine since it will be more powerful than a CA18ET due to both higher compression and a bit more displacement. But if you plan to mod, and are sticking with the SOHC setup, you better get another CA18ET longblock and work with that.
is there a place I can buy a ca18et rebuild kit?
Ya know, I think if you took a 2.0 and got a crank with a longer stroke and use the 1.8 rods, you would have a nice stroker motor!!!!! That would make some serious power!!
actually if you took the ca20e crank in the ca18et, used custom short pistons, you could have a stroker 2.0.
Tomei sells a kit to do this to the ca18det.
what are the advantages of the stroker vs just using a CA20E longblock?
personally the ca18et is almost perfectly square,,,, this mean very little side loading of the piston to the cylinder wall and good torque #'s
Yeah, and just putting the ca20 crank in a 1.8 block won't give you a 2.0 either. IIRC, it would be like an 1875 or 1900cc... Don't forget that the ca20 has 84.5mm bores compared to the 1.8's 83mm. I did see a guy on the nissanexa.com board that actually bored out his CA18DE to 84.5 mm and used CA20 pistons with the CA18DE crank, but I never actually heard if he got it running or not... 1.5mm is a lot to bore out of a block...
ya if you bore any more then .5m off exah bore you are asking for a crack to form between the cylinders
