hey guys...I dunno but it feels like my clutch is starting to go....
5th gear 120km/h @ 3500rpm...does that sound right?
iono...it feels really sluggish when accelerating but the motor just screams...
slipping clutch?

I guess the question needed to be asked is when you floor it in 5th does the tach move as the speedo doesn't or much faster than the speedo?

That rpm seems a bit high...how long has it been since the clutch was replaced, do you ride the clutch often, and did you learn to drive stick (or had little experience before) on the same clutch that you are using currently. If yes to one or more of these, then likely yes it is worn...
when I first got the car, my dad said the clutch felt new.
so the last time it was changed was at least a year ago. I learned the basics before, but yes, I really learned in this car. I don't ride the clutch much unless on hills(I don't use my brakes).
My clutch is going too. Mine grinds just a little when shifting, but it doesnt slip at any time. I guess it just worn in a different mannor. I am just going to replace it with the stock OEM clutch. no performance
grinding could be the rear transmission mount as well
or it could just be worn out syncros
Or it could just be a worn throw out bearing.
These cars are old (mines almost old enough to vote) and as I am discovering all the little things wear out. If you hear a new noise check it out strate away but don't automaticly fear the worst. ;)
drove along distance today to confirm
I don't think it's slipping badly. rpms and speedo shoot up at relatively the same rate(still getting around 120km/h @3500rpm tho)
she just bogs...accel is there, but it's not great. maybe she's always been like this and I'm just noticing now...or maybe it something mechanical. iono, I'll check my o2 sensor and timing cause I think I'm running rich.
Easy check
Start the car
put it in 5th gear, one foot on the brake and take your foot off the clutch.
If it dies straight away, you're fine. If it takes a few to die out, the clutch is dying.
I just got some kinda scary info. I was talking to a mechanic on Saturday, trying to convince him to do my clutch for cheap (I'm lazy, and I don't have much room) and he said a lot of the times what kills the clutch on the S12 is actually a leaky seal throwing oil onto the clutch.
Whether he knows what he's talking about or not is still up in the air. Anyone had this happen?
on my 88 SE i have replaced the tranny (its the C tranny) and i had NO oil on the flywheel/clutch area. there is actually 2 seals, and when installed right, there is only one opening..a drain in the bottom of the tranny just in case of any oil...the bellhousing area (under the clutch & throwout bearing) was just loaded with black dust stuff from the old clutch..no liquid or anything...but thats just MY car..maybe someone else has...?
my 86 had a nasty bit of oil in the clutch fibers that were still in the bellhousing... i thought it was from a oil leak i had higher up on the motor but that makes sense now that i look at it.
