I just went on ebay 3 days ago and picked me up a 1st gen dsm ic. :werd: I was wondering if anybody else has used this ic set up, and if so how did they went on about installing it? P.S: I plan to make it a fmic set up.....any pics will help, thanks!

I picked one up from a pick and pull about 4 years ago, and tried to fit it with no luck. With the way the inlet and outlet pipes come off the end tanks, I couldn't find anywhere possible it would fit and work. Only thing I thought about doing was having new endtanks put on with both inlet, and outlet coming straight off one side so I could use it as a front mount.....but I never got around to doing it. It's been sitting in my bin-O-parts ever since. I may pull it out and mess with it again depending how and if Bart's kit turns out.

I'm using (for now, not much longer) a Mazda MX6 cooler, which is the same idea, just slightly different design than the DSM.

Great intercooler BTW, the DSMers outflow most factory intercoolers.

The side mounts are cool for a first IC on the ca18et, because you don't need crazy 90º bends to make it to your throttle body.

Now, what I did is ghetto – very ghetto. Mine probably heatsinks so badly that it doesn't actually do anything the way I have it.

But it could be done right in the same way.

I just wanted to stuff an IC in there. I got a different IC to use, so I never bothered installing this one properly. Don't need an IC when your turbo no worky ;)

I just literally loosened off the one side of the rad, jammed the IC in, and let the piping hold everything in place.

There's a ton of room between the rad and the fan. By using longer bolts on the rad, and shortening the rad hoses, you can move your rad back far enough to easily mount the SMIC against the rad support, and have it not touching your rad.
