Hey all, PLEASE HELP!
My engine started acting up last week when I went to go get gas. All of a sudden I get massive power loss at 3800rpm and up. My turbo is still seized, but my "bypass" has been on the car about a year now and this has never happened. Also the car has started to bog down at WOT again, witch had stopped for many months and has now returned... I listened to the valve cover for any unusual noises and I heard a soft normal clicking from all cylinders except for 1 and 4 on the exhaust side- they had a slightly louder clicking, but not too bad.
Driving- above 3800rpm (where power-loss is noticed) the intake noise is louder and sharper. Some of these symptoms will somewhat diminish as driving continues and engine is warm. One final thing: I went for a long time without an oil change and may have damaged the internals, but I dont know for sure...
HELP!!!
ALSO: The last few startups have been odd. It would crank, pause, crank some more and fire up. Just thought I should add that.
Engine is acting up...

What exactly do you mean by intake noise. Do you mean air whistling or a sound coming out of the intake? Cna you describe the noise please and I'll try to figure it out.
I have a short ram intake that is for a Honda Civic. It sounds like a ricer. somewhat loud farting noise... but over 3800rpm, it get a little louder than what it was before, and sharper. And thats where the power loss is noticed. Basically it sounds like its trying really hard to take in air, and not alot happens... I am really worried because it is starting to become winter and I don't want to keep borrowing my dad's car if something is wrong.
I'me still a little iffy on where this noise is coming from but if your exhaust note get sharper (more crackly) it could be timing out of whack or maybe one of your coils is ready to pack it in. I'me thinking coils because you intake coil shuts down at high rpm (past 3000ish) and if its getting weak that could be your problem. Try switching your coil wires around (the ones that go to your distributor cap) and try driving it. Also check your cap and rotor for arcing and carbon tracking and it couldn't hurt to check a plug or two.
Hmmm, Yea that could be. I sure hope so. My dad told me to check the cap and rotor along with the vacuum lines and such... As for the noise, The short ram intake is a very large diameter, and has no baffleing. therefore the incoming air reverberates in the intake pipe thus making a loud noise. But i will check that stuff out and let you know... Luckily I have off tonight so I have some time.
COIL, check it first, if not, check to make sure the intake you have isnt causing turbulence inside of your MAF..from what i've seen/heard/know, the nissan maf's are very sensitive.
Well, so far I have switched the coils around... No change. Checked the cap, and it was dry with no traces of arcing. I disconnected the actuator rod going to the wastegate and that seemed to take care of the problem of the 4000rpm heart attack. But I still need a calander to measure any acceleration. It is slower than it was before. I am starting to think it may be a fuel problem. There could be a leak in the line so there would be a HUGE loss in power. I still need to replace the fuel pump and sending unit and the fuel tank itself.
I was also thinking, If the coils were starting to go, wouldn't they be sending a weak spark, therefore decreasing power? I'm gonna invest in some high performance coils, plugs and wires. Would that take care of it? I think if thats the problem, it should. What else should i try???
Scratch ALL of that ^^^^
I FOUND the problem... actually my buddies at Goodyear did. My car died while going to NAPA to see if they could help me with my problem, and it died about 1/2 a mile away (go figure). I tried to start it again but just wouldnt fire up... It cranked well, but thats about it. So I got a tow to the nearest Gemini Goodyear center, which is being run by my former manager, and he had it looked at. The car got in about 11:30am (ish) and I didn't get home until about 3:10pm. And not under the power of my S12 Silvia!!!! What happened that caused all this crap was my TIMING BELT!!! It is missing a few teeth and ****ed everything up. Now the CA18ET is an "Interference" motor, which means the valves WILL be mangled and bent if something like this happened. So guess what? I have to replace my timing belt, get a head out of the junkyard, have it machined and put it back on... in the cold ass garage of an apartment complex. Granted it is a 2 car garage and I will have plenty of room... I live in Wisconsin and today's high was about 50 degrees F.I will be able to do all the work on my car about next week, when the daily high drops to about 40ish or less... Man I am pissed
Well I could have the guys at Goodyear do it, but that would be $200 or more just to do the belt. Then they have to fire it up to see If I need a new head... And they dont do head work.
Right now i am typing this with a bottle of Mellow Yellow in me as well as 2 cups of coffee that tasted like it was filtered through a jock strap. Later I get to go with my dad, to the Silvia back here as sob about it... Moral support is welcome and needed, as I am a complete wreck. Thanks for your help anyway, I know you guys ment well.

i had my timing belt snap and it didnt cause any damage.. its a 50/50 shot for something to get bent or damaged
... But The timing was drastically off fo about a week until it just skipped and died. So far I see about 4 teeth missing... And there is ALOT of slack in the belt. I think the tensioner broke, because I can really yank around the belt. I hope I don't need another head. but then again, this might give me a chance to get another head, get it ported and polished, and a Euro spoec NISMO cam put in;) But just tell me to dream on!
