for my manual s12 v6, the 86 300zx ECU, does it has to be from a manual, or can be from a automatic?? is there a different in atuo and manual ECU???

From what I've heard, you can use an automatic ECU in your manual S12, but you can't use a manual ECU in an automatic S12.

..ive heard the opposite....LEWIS, where the hell are you?! <

o well, i'll wait for a answer that is for sure.......

My answer was from what I remember from Lewis (Crowbar). The automatic ECU will not interfere with a manual transmission. However a manual ECU is lacking the programming that an automatic equipped car needs.

Yes the auto 86 300zx ecu will run in a standard tranny VG30e 200sxse. But the opposite is not true. The auto tranny car has a different TB switch with both an off idle switch and full throttle switch also.

I am running a 88 Maxima ecu with 300zx MFU right now because the car is getting ready for winter. I get great gas mileage also but limited performance. Still runs great. I run a 88 300zx ecu in the non-winter months.

I have been busy this year but still can get parts. If anyone is serious about parts (and many never come through with the money) email me and I can hook you up. I got TB, 300zx MFU, fans, etc.

about the ecu, the 86 turbo and non-turbo ECU will both work for our s12 v6 right???

Crowbar60date not saved · #8

I am not sure about the turbo ecu working unless you had all the turbo sensors etc. But the 86 is a drop in and you should use a 300zx MFU also.

To bad you couldn't just have a switch to switch the Max and the 300 Ecu's instead of pulling one in favor of the other. Or some how load info for both into one CPU and have a switch telling the ECU which one to use, Like a performance/Econo Switch.

It could be done. It would just involve a bit of wiring.

Jsvob03date not saved · #11

one good pair of wire stippiers, one good soldering IRON (not gun), lots of 60/40 rosin (not acid) core solder, and about 300 ft of 14 (16?) AWG wire. and one SPST switch, and its done..lol

is it worth it??? i have a turbo 86 300zx ecu. i dont want to go through all the wirering for nothing. should i just get a 86 300zx non-turbo ecu???

200SXXEnotchbck86date not saved · #13

The only reason for any of that wiring is if you where going to turbo your car, or have 2 ECU's and have it to where you can switch between the 2. Like a 300zx ecu and a Maxima ECU, one for the performance, one thats more economical. And yes, its probably better to get the Non-turbo (N/A) for our cars. The 86 is a straight up drop in, anything newer (Say 87-89), you would have to use a different O2 sensor and have where it screws into changed as its a different size.

Actually a 86 turbo ecu is worth some money. 50-75 bucks. Sell it and get a 86 non-turbo if you can.

I use any ecu because I turn the stock O2 signal (a varying resistance type) in to a voltage producing type. Its very easy.

Its not that hard to swap in different ecus and hardly worth the risk of using two.

akinaspeedstarsdate not saved · #15

what is the number on the 86 non-turbo ecu??

what do you mean by turning the stock o2 to a voltage type??
how does that work?
