What do you guys reccomend for a break upgrade on the 200sx?? what parts do I need? how good are the stock breaks?

Upgraded breaks
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Apr 2005" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
The search button is a wonderful thing...
probably hard to do a search if you can't spell brakes right though...
Man, I still don't know what's up with all the brake upgrades though, the old race car had the best brakes of ANYTHING I had ever driven, and that was just a stock setup in good working order...
Drive a 200hp 200sx down a twisty mountain road and you will know what brake fade is.
You can use the brakes from a 200sx SE(v6), they are the same as the brakes on the Z31.
So the VG S12 brakes are bigger/ better than the CA and they bolt in?
aparently... we determined in another thread that the rotors and pads off of an S13 will fit, and for proof, Neb uses both of the forementioned upgrades.
Yeah, but are the S13's any bigger or better? I know I've seen some Z32 front brake swaps too, that oughta pull the eyeballs outta your sockets...
I guess I didn't have to deal with brake fade since the only time I used the brakes was when I pulled in the pits or if someone wrecked in front of me. It definetly stopped a lot better than my tube-chassis Grand Stock Monte Carlo though... :yikes:

are we talking about rotors pads and calipers? or just one or two of those. and does that mean we have to switch to 5 lug too/
Just put new pads and rotors on the car and you'll notice a huge difference. I mean how old are our cars. Unless you are doing some mad downhill racing stock brakes should be fine. Mine are awesome they can lock all four tires with minimal effort

The stock IRS rear end has the same rotors as a S13 and the same pads, i'm using Project Mu pads for an S13 there, the front i'm not sure cos i'm using almost a complete S13 front end in my car so it's not really relavant here. It'll be S14 4 pots and S15 rotors soon enough though, just got to find some rims to clear the damn things.

Well buddy if you feel the need to get rid of your rims

The early Z31 N/A cars were 4 lug. The brakes are the same as the turbo model I believe, and 1" larger in diameter than stock CA brakes. They may be thicker too. I've never really felt fade on my Z31, but all kinds on my S12. The V6 S12 guys don't complain of fade either, so it would probably be a good upgrade.

Really there are only a few upgrades that need to be considered it's just the level of involvement you want to get into. First things first its safe to say most of these cars have had zero maintenance in the last 17 years or so. My first recommendation would be to just to flush the lines, when I did mine my old fluid was very milky and thick. Next would be stainless steel lines and a nice pad. Depending on how your system feels at this point you might want to consider rebuilding your calipers and even master cylinder, I know mine was bad when I got it. Or you could just say F it do an s13 conversion and go with z32 calipers.

Hmm good point, I'll ask the Z car list tomorrow about this, verify the bolt pattern specs, and ask about aftermarket slotted/drilled rotors.
One thing you can do is use 240SX internals in your 200SX master cyllinder. We know it's beefier.
If you want your S12 to "break", don't worry. It will break on its own. They always do ;)

I might have found some 17s, i dunno if i'll keep my volks as drift rims or not, i already have another set of 16s for dori dori so i might not need 8 of them. It depends tho cos i got the doribird as well, might stick with 14s on that tho cos i have two sets of 14x6.5s as well.

They are the same part number so long as you are comparing 5 lug cars.
Noooooo the comment was about the earlier NA 4-lug Z31's not the 5-luggers.
And THAT is what I am gonna ask about.
ANd the result is....
4x114.3 for 4-lug Z31
ANd Motorsport Auto has them in slotted/drilled:

If this is a bolt on someone clarify.
There is only one way to find out. Someone should buy a set or rotors and see what it takes to make them fit.
