i have been talkin to my parents about maybe importing me a real s13 for graduation. i was wondering how much it would be or if it would be cheaper to just get an 89 240sx and do the s13 front and sr20det blacktop(oh yeah)?
opinions.................
import an s13?
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Apr 2005" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
cheaper to do swap and front end conversion.
after importation fees etc...a 1991 Silvia will cost you around $9000 - $10000 CDN
1991 S13 will cost you around $5000USD tops for a mint one. black top front clip will set you back around $2800USD. then the motor swap at a shop another $2000USD tops maybe? and the panels swap over fairly easily(some fabbing but nothing major). so if you get a 240sx cheaper 240sx then you can do it for cheaper
thats what i figured.i will only have the black top.best sr
then get an S15 SR and sort out how to make it work lol
Somebody's parents are high rollers
nope not at all i'll pay for most of it i just want them to help me buy the stuff.
i dont want the s15 cause i dont want the 6 speed it doesnt gain you anything. i want to keep it s13 sr maybe s14 but not s15. it has more power but you loose some with that extra gear.

then why dont u just slap on the 5spd gear box, and sell the 6spd.
Also about importin a whole car, there prolly would be no way u could get it legalized...too much work..headlights would need DOT approval, windshield needs to be changed, speedo, etc etc...even tho u could just swap over USDM ones, I think it would be easier to just do the swap.
and I believe the only legal importers you guys have is Motorex in california
get an fj from an dr30 front cut rebuild it chuck it in your s12 and say catch me if you can :lick:
but if you really an want s13 get the 240sx and do the swap from from what i hear on here and elsewhere importing is a bitch, if you were in aus you would have a couple of thousand to choose from swear they are as popular as mitsubishi lancers in perth i love having s12 probably only seen 8 or so on the road here.
alot of people say the 6sp is weak...no experiance ith one myself but the rumers started somewhere :spy:
I would dare say a stock SR in a S13 would kill a stock FJ20 in a S12. Drivability on the FJ would be worse to.
Do a conversion on a local car is my advice, blacktop S13 motors are no different from a redtop except for year of manufacture so just get a nice clean one. S14 motors would be a good idea to, bigger turbo and VVT although from what i've heard VVT does SFA so the bigger turbo and overall newer motor is what you are going for. S15 motors might be more of a pain to wire up with stock management etc, i believe they have built in security etc and it could get over complicated quickly. The 6 speed box has a reputation for being a bit noisy but sollid overall, it is less durable than the S13 and S14 boxes but only if it's given a sound caning and alot more power. If you use a S15 motor with a older box you need the flywheel clutch etc from the older car to, i think the S15 has a dual weight flywheel or somthing like that.
true true but for the money saved and spent on mods would have you fairly rocketing, but lets not start the this engine is better no no this one is but nismo did this arghh, but worldwide the s13 is more common than the s12 thus i would prefer the s12 and im a sucker for the fj :D but that being said models change for a reason so obviously a near stock s13 will walk on a near s12 on the track.
each to there own good luck whatever way you go:cheers:
maybe I got a lttle caried away with the:lick: smily lol
oh yeah and nebuchenezzer isn't the vvt only on the intake cam on the later sr20's? out of curiousity, can remember reading it somewhere but memory is not the greatest
getting an S14 SR into an S13 is tough.
S14s use OBDII while S13 use OBDI
even using a blacktop SR is trickey.
all it is is wires..... i prefer redtop motors though!

As long as you use the OBDII computer and motor wiring harness you should be ok...8)

Well I take it his point is to put the Silvia frontend on a car here, so technically the headlights and bumper regulations are being violated anyway. Fortunately, this is South Carolina, and such things don't generally matter.

those are the only legal importers of '90 and up Skylines,.. they dont import anything else (well according to their website they dont)
i'm sure there are other importers who can legally import other vehicles

Using pieces of other cars generally don't draw as much attention as importing whole cars, and trying to get it licensed...
hey CU Zcar you are in Greenville awesome i live in boiling springs. do you know a guy named danny with the white s13 it has the front end conversion and a blacktop sr and his bro has a turbo red miata? anyways we should hook up and shoot the shit sometime. but back to the car i just want an s13 and a sr i am not to picky on if it is right or left hand drive i just want sr power. besides i already have the fj so then i could compare well i am gonna get a fj20et sometime.(drool)
