Hey,

Subaru use a "R180" rear lsd on their cars. Anyone know if a mechanical lsd for the subby fits into our R180 diffs?

James there is a clutch type rear subaru R180 LSD centre for sale here in Brisbane at Option1Garage for $350 on special. They have no half shafts, or even cut off half shafts with it, after reading the same 510 article a couple of weeks back, I went and tried my R180 CV shafts in it and they didn't seem to fit??? Though I didn't get a real lot of time at it though, so this would need to be confirmed with absolute certainty.
If I was buying one I would certainly want at least the inner portion of the CV's with it, just in case I had to make up hybrid CV's.(Hybrid CV's would cost you $150 a side at the very minimum,(which then doesn't make the centre a very attractive option because you may also need dowels made up if your existing R180 bolts are smaller than the ones needed for this centre, so maybe another $100 on top) and that's doing all the work yourself except the resplining which would be done at an engineering place equiped to do it)

Actually that pic looks different to what he showed me from my vague memory. He was a pretty dopey bugger, so maybe he showed me the wrong thing!! I did try my half shafts in a 'front' WRX R180 VLSD centre, (I found lying around there myself) and they fitted okay in the passenger side, (fitted okay drivers side also, except of course you need the extended extra smaller spline on that side to operate the viscous mechanism right in the middle of the diff centre).
What I would do if I were you James is check around the Sydney area for an importer that gets subaru parts. I'm sure they wouldn't mind you trying one of your R180 CV's in a late WRX rear mechanical centre, (if you don't have a spare cv, Jarich had a spare R180 CVone, so ask him).
I think I have heard that WRX parts can be pretty Xy, but no harm in checking it out.
