I was testing my new exhaust dump valve thing today and it rained this morning so the roads are still wet but not raining. Any ways on one start from standing I put the boots to her and both tires slid a little bit sideways and when I hit second the same thing happened, both tires started to spin at the same time, huh I says. So I drove it to a nearby dirt road and tried it again and lo and behold two tire marks that start spinning at the same time in 1st, 2nd and 3d gears, what the hell? I also tried it on dry pavement and I left two patches of rubber on the road. Is their anyways to check if I have a LSD without taking it apart? Oh yeah I jacked up one tire and it spins with the other on the ground. Any help would be great.

Possible LSD?

Alot of cars will spin both wheels even though they have a open diff especially on dirt. Jack the back of the car up and spin one wheel, does the other wheel spin in the opposite direction? If so it's an open diff, if it spins the same direction then you could have a LSD. What type of rear end is it? H190, R180, R200?
I havn't jacled it up yet but it did spin both tires on dirt, and wet and dry pavement.
i have an open R180, and in a straight line i will spin both........jack the car up as Neb said. Its the only way to know and it takes all of 2 minutes to do.
catch
Yeah it's easy to spin twins even with an open diff at times.
bah to LSDs...1 tire fire all the way..lol
LOL... 1Tire Fire. I prefer the term "Peg Leg" myself! but I would much like an LSD.
im just gonna weld my current diff and buy another for daily driving and swap it out for events.
The snappy characteristics of a welded diff do not lend well to drifting. You'd be much better off with a clutch type LSD.
I dunno about that, alot of local drifters like the locked diff since under heavy power or deceleration the 2 way clutch pack will be locked anyways, snapping sideway hard looks cool to. Havn't driven one myself but we do now have a locker in our drift bluebird. Just a few more things to do on it before we drive it again.
It's not the snapping sideways hard that is the bad part, it's the snapping back to straight. I've driven my friend's 510 with a welded diff, and it is extremely difficult to finesse mid drift. As soon as you let off the gas, the thing snaps to straight. It's too violent to really make use of and to make look "pretty" from the outside.
Maybe, i havn't seen anyone have trouble with it, i think that suspension setup will cure alot of problems indueced by a locker. The only 510s i've seen try and drift have been shite due to poor suspension setup, i've heard they are quite good handling little things so you would think that someone could drift quite successfully in one.
