According to RATDAT on sxoc, they are a simple bolt on job.

....so all we have to do is remove the dust shield??? or just cut it!?
They won't bolt to stock struts, the bolt spacing is narrow than the S14 pots as far as i know, you'd need rotors to, not sure if you could slip the 280x30mm rotors over the oem S12 hubs and have them line up.
pots...another australian word for ...?
caliper
haven't you ever heard of the term "4-pot caliper" if you read about Z32 or skyline brake upgrades...
but yea...are those STOCK S14 calipers?
In Australia, (and I suspect the UK), s14 came with sr20det and the 4 pot (4 piston) calipers.
Oh and we Australians also call a standard size glass of beer ordered in a pub, (you know what a pub is right?), a `pot`...
`...Pot of XXXX please....`
XXXX is an actual well known beer brand here.
Confused yet?
Those struts and hubs and rotors in the pic are from a Z31, (or for US people you can use V6 88 model s12 struts that have the same hub and caliper as the Z31 struts shown in the picture), to use those the Z31 struts you need the steering arm that bolts on top of the ball joint as the bolt spacing for where the strut bolts on to this is wider on the Z31 so they won`t bolt to the s12 steering arm thingy.
Oh and yes the 4 pot, (piston or spot for others!), will bolt up to those struts.
Also notice the strut has been modified to a coilover setup. The Z31 springs are to wide for the s12 strut tower and will jam on full lock, so you either have to cut the Z31 lower spring perch off and weld on the s12 one, or change to a coilover kit as shown in the picture.
and "XXXX" means "beer", the aussies drink that much of it that they can read the label anyway!
Ah i see, i forgot that since your S14s were different spec they might not have 4 pots. Oh yeah speaking of pots i'm from New South Wales where we have Schooners and Midis, GerryBG is from Queensland, where they have pots and drink XXXX. Down here everyone drinks NEW or VB (Victoria Bitter, i would guess that Victorians drink this to?). I've heard that Tasweagens drink pots to tho.
Just for referance to aussies, S14s, S15s, R32 GTSt Type Ms, R33 GTS25ts, Z32s of all kinds and probably a few other cars have brakes that are easy to adapt to S13 struts and if you look for GerryBGs how to they fit a few other struts to.
we have schooners, pints and pots in queensland depends what pub you go to.
lol XXXX i have heard is a brand of condoms in the US..... XXXX is mainly confined to queensland i had a mate walk into a bottle shop in victoria and ask for XXXX and the guys there just burst out laughing and said "let me guess you are from queensland right?"
Those struts and hubs and rotors in the pic are from a Z31
no they are Converted S12 ones
So Waco which s12 struts are they do you know?, as the s14 4 piston calipers won't bolt up to the ca20 and ca18et strut caliper bracket as far as I know. They will bolt up to the s12 V6 and FJ20 type struts , (which have Z31 pattern caliper brackets on them as far as I know). This is important info to be established for people wanting to do the nissan 4 spot conversion, because otherwise people see forum posts like that one on sxoc forums and they might think the calipers are a bolt up to standard ca20 or ca18et strut caliper brackets, which they aren't, (not without make up a caliper bracket adaptor???).
I'd say you'd be right. I reckon some p#sshead was experimenting and came up with the recipe for it, (sampling all the combinations up to this point) and was so pissed he could only come up with XXXX as a name. Or maybe he was just some poor convict bastard who couldn't read!!
the guy who converted the struts is from sxoc and zxoc his board name is ratdat real name Ed. he is a very reliable source of info and has years of experience with Nissans. so for me if he says they will fit I would believe him.
the struts in the pic are converted s12 (ca18et) Ed did the work himself
this was asked on sxoc
Q: Ed Are the calipers a direct replacement, and will fit properly over the standard sized disc?
A: Yup, straight bolt on job. The disc diameter is perfect for them
Q: Any pictures of the s14 4 pot calipers. How come lda says hes useing the s14 hubs and you recon bolt them straight on the s12 hubs?
A: No need to change hubs unless you particularly want 5 stud (can't think of a good reason for having 5 studs). I just chucked the components together and took some pics. The pics below show an S12 strut converted to coilover with S12 hubs and black diamond S12 grooved discs. The calipers came from an S14 (not S14a) but no idea what actual year. They bolt straight on though.

Q: Are those S13 coilovers then? Or are they converted S12 ones?
A: Converted S12 ones.
Yes i agree with wacomuk. there converted s12 struts s14 calipers,s12 hubs.
define "converted S12 coilovers" please...
does that mean he just made coilovers? and I can just use my stock struts and bolt on the S14 4 pots? or do I need to "convert" my struts
yes but the s14's in North America didn't come with these calipers.define "converted S12 coilovers" please...

shouldn't be too much of a problem
somebody from cannonball or DDX or WorldOne can probably find some JDM S14 4 pots.
edit: okay...so apparently if the JDM S14 4-pots will bolt up, then the Z32, Z33 and skyline 4 pots will bolt up too.

the strut top / spring and botom spring cup have been removed
Okay maybe UK CA18et S12`s got different struts than the Australian CA20 cars. Our struts only had 250mm rotors and caliper mounting/ears to match.
Imported used FJ20 cars I have seen, (no one brings/brought in
used ca18et`s), have a 274mm rotors an caliper ears/brackets to match, (same hubs and rotors as on the Z31`s), and I know that the nissan 4 pots will bolt straight up to them. So the ca18et`s in the UK got these 274mm type struts?
Were FJ20 powered S12`s sold new in the UK?
Yep Only in Fj20e form though
So these would have had the 274mm rotors. Did UK ca18et cars have 274mm rotors? Or is it possible the struts that were converted were from a UK FJ s12 with the 274mm rotor type struts?
THEY ARE 274MM DISCS ON THE UK CA18ET
http://www.ratdat.com/forum/100_4826.jpg
That`s good you guys with ca18et`s are lucky then, the calipers will bolt up to them, (US CA18et cars had these 274mm rotor brakes also I guess then??).
I just went and checked my FJ s12 style struts, which I have 4 spot calipers mounted to, and the spacing for the caliper bracket holes is 100mm.
I checked a standard pair of CA20e struts and the spacing is 88-89mm, so they are no good,(stands to reason as they only had the 250mm rotors, wafer thin things too, 18mm!!).
So you need ca18et struts or better. If you are using the standard 274mm X 22mm thick rotors with the 4 spots you will also need to make up metal spacers to go behind your brake pads. For s14, R32 etc the rotor thickness is 30mm, so you`d need at least 3mm thick either side. What you do is get 3mm steel plate and place a s14 etc brake pad back down on it and carefully mark out the shape, then you get 4 the same cut out by a laser cutting place. You can just get the main shape cut out and then you can drill the holes for pins etc.
Non turbo Z32`s had 26mm thick rotors so for them you would only need 2mm thick spacers.
If you don`t do this, especially with the s14, R32 and Z32 turbo calipers, the pistons could pop out, (ouch) of the calipers after the pads wear some.
hmm..
and a ca18et strut/hub is a bolt in replacement for the ca20e also?
Of course, just chuck em in.
Just for referance to aussies, S14s, S15s, R32 GTSt Type Ms, R33 GTS25ts, Z32s of all kinds and probably a few other cars have brakes that are easy to adapt to S13 struts and if you look for GerryBGs how to they fit a few other struts to.
So if I was to do the S13 coilover conversion with the steering arms, brakes etc. what do I need to do to fit S14 hubs? Will this mean sourcing S14 brakes as well? I think the five-stud conversion may well be worthwhile.
to use the s14 hubs there are so many combos of arms etc.
here's what i'd do (if it's wrong can someone correct me):
- s14 hubs (machined out to suit the s12 tie-rod end).
- s13 lower control arms (apparently these bolt up to everything else like swaybar mounts and castor rods easily).
- R32/R33 GTSt Skyline Balljoints (s13 b/js wont work with the s14 hubs and s14 b/js wont work with the s13 LCA).
- R32/R33 4-piston calipers and discs (slightly beefier than s14 gear).
- master cylinder from above vehicle.
- s14-type coilovers (where the coilover bolts to the hub with two bolts, these are thicker than s13 ones).
obviously, you'd have to try and convert the rear to 5-stud.
personally, i'd rather just bolt s13 hubs, arms coilovers, etc on and use the skyline discs re-drilled to 4-stud with matching calipers and master cylinder.
