TSIA. The thing is, I've never put one actually back on! Sure, I've built engines out of the car, and then lined everything up and put on the belt. But never in the car. So say I pull this head, right? Kay, I take the head, strip off the manifolds, pull the cam, open up the ports a little, new valvetrain, slap it al back together wth a earo cam.So the head istight and will perform better. Much better.

Only, once it's time to bolt it back on... how do you line things up shaftwise? hmm might almost be better to pull the whole damned engine and just rebuild...

HEY.... wait a minute I'm falling into the usual trap :P No, scrap all that, I got the manifold off sans the EGR pipe, that's a no brainer. I'm just gonna leave the head on ;) but out of curiosity I still leave my post up to see what you would all say if I went ahead with this in the future.

what do you mean line things up shaft wise?

before you take the engine apart you should have the #1 cylinder at TDC, then when you put everything back together just line up the timing marks and it should work..

The timing lines up the same way that it does when the engine is out of the car.
You know how to set the cam timing with the engine out of the car, so you should be able to do it with right engine in the car, right? I take it that there is no futher explanation needed.
