I have an 84 that totaly dead. I was wondering if anyone ever considered the 4.3. I have one out of an s10 that I replaced with a V-8 and was wondering if it would fit. There seems to be plenty of room between the fender wells. Its a hot little motor too. plus parts are so cheap. its tempting very little wiring to get messed up and tons of torque. what do you guys think

There is a first for eveything...DO IT!!!!!
I would say that the 4.3 is probably roughly the same size as the VG30, so fitment shouldn't be much of a problem. Only problem with fitment would be the intake manifold. The VG30 is an extremely tight fit to the hood, and if your 4.3 is the old throttle-body setup, then you will be REAL tight, if not coming up through the hood.
My suggestion would be to mount the motor as LOW as possible, even if you have to hack up an oil pan a little bit for clearance. Also, you've got to check clearance against the firewall for the distributor. IIRC, S10's have a hydraulic clutch, so that shouldn't be any trouble with some custom lines made to go from the S12 master to the 4.3 slave cylinder. (If you're running a manual, that is).
4.3's are awesome motors, and that would be some hellacious torque for an S12. Have fun and keep us updated!!!
