Quick question,

when you guys shift fast, do you guys always get a crunch?

I munched my 2nd gear synchros yesterday from shifting a tad too fast.

I need to know if this is due to my power, age of the box or is it common with the B tranny?

Do the ET c boxs have better synchros?

thanks

Not sure, but I always used to crunch em, especially in the race car, where the only time I shifted was on restarts from 2nd to 3rd. Never powershifted, but it definetly wasn't a granny shift either. And all the time I had that car, only missed one shift...

remeber that ca18et still got the b tranny as well, but after 86 they used the ctranny. and from what i hear the c tranny is a bit stronger and designed better then the b tranny so a swap to the c would be a good idea

i used to crunch mine quite a bit, 2 things fixed the prob..

1. i learned that i was shifting a tad sooner then i had the clutch engaged

2. my stock clutch wasnt able to grap quickly enough to allow me to shift really fast..

so i thru in the performance clutch and havent had a crunch since

I have a very good performance clutch, didnt help with the crunching!
I also make sure that I have the clutch to the floor b4 i do any shifting.

I think Ill just get another CA20E box, double clutch when shifting fast from 1-2-3 and slow down my shifts too... Hmmmm :frown:

I used to shift pretty quick on my old stocker, only 3rd crunched and only if you were brutal with it. If you knew the car you could avoid it easily and still shift quick.

I have decided to rebuild the box with new synchros and whatever else is worn! $600

I dont see the point in buying another old CRAP CA20E box $200 and I couldnt be bothered buying a CA18DET box $450 and adapting the crossmember $100? and adapting the drive shaft $150.

My old box has done just under 200k kms so it has done well. :spy:

The syncros in mine are bad, well 3rd gear anyhow. Rebuilding and replacing the sycros is the best bet, as it will give the transmission a like-new feel again. Just replacing it, who knows what you might end up with! You can't really tell syncro condition too much unless you drive the vehicle that is donating the trans.
