listed are the ratio's I know of:

4.11
3.90
3.70
3.54

What kind of RPM drop would you expect between these??? I am looking for a higher top speed w/ a lower RPM. Thanx for help

ok, according to the 88 FSM, the SE comes with the 3.90 Rear Gears. THe 84-86 Turbo models have the 4.11, and ALL (this is what the manual says) CA20E's were paired with 4.11's, but it was the R180 (the SE has the R200). To increase top-end, and lower rpms, you'd want the 3.70, or even the 3.54. I knwo you'd have to change out your speedo gear in the transmission as well so as to keep accuracy. the 4.11's would increase your acceleration through the gears, but you'd lose some top end. (but you'd get there faster.) I actually thought about switch my gears in the tranny so as to get better accel, and top end with the 3.9 rear end. PM me if you want ideas.

im running a 4.375 changed down from a 3.9 (r200 lsd),

pick up is quick as, but it revs at 3300 rpm at 100 kph now.

i have and im going to fit a 4.11 lsd, and i think that they are by far the best ratio for my car. the fj20et is quite a torquey motor (as is the vg ) i'd say, so it would probably be the best option for performance, or the 3.9 if you do a lot of highway driving and dont mind losing a bit of performance, but i personally wouldn't bother with a 3.7 or lower...

Thanx for replying but unfortunatly that does not answer my question. I am just looking for the RPM drop from one gear to the other. I know there has to be an equation to determine that. Like I said I need a higher top speed from a lower RPM. Acceleration can suffer I don't care. I just need to know which gear to use to suit my target. Thank you again.

hmm id want the 3.7.... once you start adding more and more power the 3.7 or 3.9 wouldnt be noticed that greatly.... but if you drag alot 4.11 is best.. but i think the best course of action would be to get a different c tranny.. like the 240sx one since its gearing is a bit taller.... add that with the 4.11 we have and we'd still have plenty of accel and nice top speed at much lower rpms..

I have 4.32:1 in mine right now and my SE just fires out of the hole its alot of fun burnouts are very hard to avoid :)

If you don't want to mess with the tranny, I would get the 3.70 gear set. 3.54 is going to be way too high a ratio, and I think you'd really miss your acceleration. However, I don't know what your motivations are. 3.70 won't really be too much different from the 3.90. You'll probably be a couple hundred rpm lower at 70mph. If you want something more dramatic, then 3.54 would be for you.

I know of a link to a file you can download in excel format. It has all the calculation you would need to figure out your gearing, all things being equal of course.

I'm not sure if I can find right now, I'm at work...so I'll post it as soon as I can.
