I hope this hasn't been asked, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I have a 1987 ca18et, but according to descriptions that i have been able to find, the body style is 1986, mainly the hood and interior stuff that they changed. Is there anywhere to get more info on this?
1986 - 1987 comparison question

let me rephrase that. I have the turbo 4 which as far as i can tell was made up until 86, but the body is 87. I'm just wondering about parts as sometimes that can make a huge difference. espescially since it has the turbo, IRS and LSD.
Nissan decided not to bring the VG30E to Canada. They continued to sell the 200SX with the 1.8 Turbo all the way until 1988 up here, whereas in the states the 1.8 Turbo was cancelled in 1986.
So, since you're in Calgary, you can definitely have a 1987 200SX Turbo.
cool, thanks for the heads up. makes sense since all the gauges are metric as well. I hate having to mess around with parts guys when it comes to these things. Last car I had was similar and I argued with a NAPA guy about a part that was visually right there in the car and he said wasnt because the computer said so.....
Yep. With my two '87 Turbo's, I found everytime I called up PartsSource or NAPA, I'd have to tell them that the car was an '86 Turbo 200SX. If I ever said '87 200SX Turbo, they'd reply "No, you can't have the 1.8. It didn't exist in 1987. You must have the 2.0 engine." and we'd start a fight with me insisting that I REALLY had a 1987 1.8 Turbo. It was a pain.
i actually had the guy come out to look at the car, showed him the part and he STILL argued with me, said I must have put it in aftermarket, because........his computer said it wasn't in there. God forbid these auto places hire someone who has the slightest knowledge about cars.

All Turbo cars got the IRS...no matter the year, but unless you or somebody else swapped in the LSD, you don't have one...
Some good news...Napa now recognizes the 18ET in Canada from 87-88...or at least in Ontario they do...
thanks for the heads up guys. According to a mechanic I have the LSD, but since I didn't do anything, wouldn't surprise me if I got ANOTHER mechanic who doesn't know what he's talking about.

Thank god...

Unless somebody put an LSD into your car, you don't have one...;) 8)...It would be cool if somebody did put one in it though...
Knowing my luck, probably not. When I first got the car I heard a noise from the rear, so I took it to a mechanic that was closest to my price range. He spouted all this stuff off while he had it up. Turns out the noise was the left rear spindle is bent which is causing me to go through brakes on that side like crazy. Trying to find one at the wreckers is impossible.
I found one the other day but the entire rear end was gone. Grabbed the MKI marker lights and grill tho.
