or should i just put a fat k&n on my intake tube. or can i buy custom tubing,
i did some searching, and i know i need the Rx7 adapter .

you can use any cone filter, any cai..whatever

it just matters how much you modify.

but will that 2k racing setup work? it seems a lill expensive.

be careful with k&n filters.... they like to mess with hotwire style maf's

The reason for this is because of hte fact that the filter needs to be oiled. If you oil the filter too much the oil can block parts of hte sensing in the MAF, however this problem affects ALL filters that require oil, and 99% of the aftermarket filters out there do. The easiest thing is to just not over oil the filter you are using. we have been using K&N's in everything, and we have been using them for almost 10 years without any problems...

i guess you're not too good at reading? as i have explained to you in a couple of other threads, you're engine is the VG30E, the same as is in the Z31 300ZX (1984-1989 although there were some slight changes through those years),.. the 1990-1996 300ZX came with the VG30DE which is NOT the same as the VG30E and parts are not interchangeable.

This intake is for the VG30DE, while you can ghetto rig it to work on your S12, why would you pay the $257 for something you'll have to modify anyways

get a little creative. look through jegs or summit or atpturbo and find some mandrel bends. order some couplers and get creative. then it will be how you want and way cheaper.

Why not go to some muffler shop and have them do you one instead?

I'm interested though on that in line filter. How's that suppose to work?

99% of the aftermarket filters out there do.

that is why i went with an apexi filter.... most hp gains and you don't have to oil it!

Not to start an argument or anything, but do you have a flow chart for that filter??? If they do flow better than K&N we might use them next year on the sleds...*drag racing, you need every hundredth you can get*

I read a test on air filters a while back in Hot Rod Magazine (no, they didn't test any apex'i filters...), and they tested a few different paper filters, and the oiled filters (K&N, etc.), and there was a pretty minimal gain in between all the filters testing new vs. new. Now, in my opinion, I like the K&N's because they stay cleaner longer, and then when they get dirty, you don't have to replace them, just clean and oil.

If it wasn't a good design, there wouldn't be a bunch of other companies trying to copy it, but I really don't think you'll get much gain from one filter to another unless you're testing dirty vs. clean... ;)

I don't have the charts, but there was a comparison made long ago on twinturbo.net - the Z32 forum I frequent. The Apex'i made the most hp, however, the gain wasn't huge or anything, maybe 1hp at best. However, the main two reasons I bought the Apex'i were the fact that it filtered better than the rest and you don't have to oil the filter. That's why I bought one for my S12 and two for my Z32.

dude, all you need is your maf, some bent pipe and a cone filter to do it yourself for well under 100 bucks. sure you don't get the shiny polished hunk of metal under the hood, or the pretty licence plate border but it'll work out much better.
