since LSD swaps are so popular it sounds like the stock rearend is a posi, but i only do one wheel burnouts. is their a true posi setup for these cars, i.e two wheel burns?

many.... But the reason we talk about LSD swap is becuase we DON'T have LSD not becuase we want better ones.

Spooled has a Quaife one in his rear but it's 1200 bucks.... Also the rear's of the Z31 turbos (300ZX) from 10/86 and on have clutch type LSD's. Other than that I don't remember. I think 240SX's might have VLSD's (viscuous type) but I don't know which models.

It has been covered before though so I would search the board if you haven't already

A posi (positraction) rear differential is an LSD. There is only one S12 tht ever had an LSD and thats the rare FJ20ET RS-X Silvia. Most are in Japan, very few ever made it elsewhere.

my bad, had my facts all f'ed up. i ment a locker rear. do they make those for our rearends?

YankeeDrifterdate not saved · #5

Like a welded diff?

Spooleddate not saved · #6

No, he means a locker, like a Detroit Locker type LSD. I don't think they make a locker for the R200, but they might for some of the hardbody trucks. Really though, a clutch type lsd is a better option anyway.

would the truck rear fit? i think it would be fun to have cause no one else was probably done it. its prolly my hot rod fixation that gave me the idea.

Well, in an '85 Notch, you don't have an R200, so no, the truck diff wouldn't work. You probably have an R180. Don't know if a locker would be available at all.

The only thing you need a locker for is hardcore drag racing. If you use it for your daily driver, you would get annoyed with the clicking it make when you go around corners, and it would wear out quicker. I'd use id for a car that I would only drive on cruise nights and when I wanted to run at the local track (drag). other than that, these cars were not ment for drag... Except for Ben Diggles, that is a kick ass run! (go to the media section and check out an FJ20ET powered S12 in AUS that runs 9's in the 1/4 mile!!)

will the R200 fit?
