Is their a way to easily spot a lsd rear ar the junkyard. And did any s12 come with a lsd. When I burn out in the grass both wheels rip up the grass.

most (if not all) LSD\'s will have fins on the rear of the housing to help with cooling..  no S12 ever sold in the US came stock with LSD

if you dont see fins and still think you have LSD simply (if still in car) jack up both sides of the car.. and turn one tire.. if the other turns the same direction you have LSD, if it turns the opposite direction or doenst turn at all you have NO LSD

none of my five LSD\'s has a finned cover...

when you jack up the car to check it out, make sure its in neutral too!

I always thought this too, but on many Nissan LSD\'s (I don\'t know about other companies) the wheels will spin opposite if you do it that way, and to check you have to spin the driveshaft.  This is especialy true with Nissan clutch LSD\'s...

I think my car has a fins on the cover. I can never seem to brake the rear lose on pavment to see if it has a lsd. so do both wheels spin the same or oppisite directions? So lift it up and turn the drive shaft? Cuold I lift just one wheel off the ground and see if that will spin? if only that one spins then it would not be lsd right?

On mine....if I drop the clutch with the front tires straight.....both rear tires spin....but if i drop the clutch coming around a corner to the right....only one will spin, and the other will spin coming around a left corner.
I jacked mine up one time and spun one wheel foward by hand, and the other wheel turned backwards.

That what mine did it spun both till I turn right. then just the right one.

No S12 in NA came with an LSD so unless a previous owner changed it you have an open diff.  And mine will spin both on anything loose, but I have an open diff.  Also an open diff will spin both...and long as both have the same amount of traction (or lack there of)

But if you turn the driveshaft, and both turn the same way you 99% have an lsd...

What I learned from my junkyard experiance is just take the time to pull of the diff cover if you see the lsd in there you good but if you see spiders gears=teh ghay.  The diff i saw with finned cover was actually a open Sad another way to tell if you\'ve got lsd is to hold the driveshaft still and spin one wheel if the other wheel turns the same direction your good to go otherwise you\'ve got a open.

not always...with a clutch LSD you have about a 50/50 chance doing that.  the only way to know for sure is by spinning the driveshaft to see what is does...

i\'ve ditched the idea... not that i was too serious about it in the first place but i figured the chasis would get twisted to shit

just got a great deal on an 86 stang with a 90 drivetrain (engine, tranny n rear end) so gonna go for that n save the rest of my money for school and maybe some toys for the stang

i definetly want to swap a v8 into a 240z one day though and no1 can argue about that because the 5L is lighter, has lower center of gravity, and is shorter then the I6 that came stock.

Hooray! Finally a good idea in this thread.
